Living Magic’s PARX debut 1st Justify North American 2 yo starter 2023

Living Magic (KY) chilling @FairHillTrainingCenter

Living Magic, a 2 yo filly by Triple Crown Winning Sire #Justify o/o Multiple Graded Stakes Winning Mare Living the Life, makes her career debut @PARX on Monday, May 1st, in a 4.5 furlong dirt sprint against 7 other first time starters. Just to spice things up, Living Magic (KY) is Justify’s first 2yo starter in North America from his second crop born in 2021.

Living Magic (KY) 16’1″ filly by Justify heading for track for #PhilSchoenthal

#LivingMagic, born on January 22nd, 2021, is a homebred for Hank Nothhaft’s HnR Nothhaft Horse Racing LLC. Living Magic (KY) was foaled and raised @Coolmore America in Versailles, KY, under the watchful eye of Brian Tormey and his staff. Her name derives from her mare (Living the Life (IRE), and the first dam of Justify, Stage Magic. Living the Life was campaigned by Hank Nothhaft, a native of PA, and raced in PA three times @PresqueIsleDowns in Erie, PA, winning the Grade 2 Master’s Stakes twice with one 2nd place finish. Since Living the Life was so effective on the A/W surfaces, it is often overlooked that LTL is Graded Stakes placed on the dirt, as well as a winner on the turf. LTL started 4 times as a 2 yo in the UK, winning one, 2nd once, all on the turf. It seems fitting that Living Magic (KY) would race first time out in the Keystone State.

Justify and Hank Discussing future plans

In late summer 2022, Living Magic (KY) shipped to VA for initial training and VA certification at Karen Godsey’s @EaglePointFarm. Once initial training and VA certification was complete, Living Magic (KY) shipped to Phil Schoenthal’s barn @FairHillTrainingCenter in Elkton, MD.

Given her size, 16’1″ hands, training proceeded with caution and the thought that large horses generally take more time to “come around” and are often subject to minor setbacks that delays their first start. Living Magic (KY) proceeded to train forwardly .According to trainer Phil Schoenthal “Living Magic (KY) has never had a bad day since she has been here.” As her training has proceeded uninterrupted, Jockey Victor Carrasco has been on board for Living Magic (KY) timed works at FAI.

Once Living Magic (KY) was gate certified and fit for a 4/5-5 fl 2yo MSW, options were weighed for her first start. Various tracks were evaluated for her first start. Hank, in particular wanted to avoid a long ship before her first start. Laurel Park was designated the primary target. Once the track issues at Laurel scrambled the racing schedule there, PARX became the most attractive destination. No one knows what career awaits Living Magic (KY), but she has shown a lot of talent and competitive fire in works so far. If Living Magic (KY) can avoid the injury bug, a successful career likely awaits her. Monday will be a first step.

Excerpt from Keith McCalmont NYRA Article

“HnR Nothhaft Horse Racing’s stakes-winner Prodigy Doll [post 3, Trevor McCarthy] makes her first start in New York for trainer Phil Schoenthal.

The 5-year-old Shanghai Bobby mare, who sports a ledger of 19-4-4-1 for purse earnings of $248,820, has competed mainly on the Maryland circuit over the past year. She captured a six-furlong optional-claimer two starts back on January 7 at Laurel Park, scoring by two-lengths over Response Time, who has since posted back-to-back wins.

Prodigy Doll, who won the 2021 Cheryl S. White Memorial at Mahoning Valley Race Course, enters from a troubled fifth in the seven-furlong Grade 3 Barbara Fritchie on February 18 at Laurel where she was steadied leaving the five-eighths and failed to fire when roused for a wide run.

Bred in Kentucky by Tolo Thoroughbreds and Michael A. Spirito, Prodigy Doll is out of the Silver Deputy mare Hi Lili, who is a half-sister to graded-stakes winner Blind Date and multiple stakes-winner Sales Tax.”

MyRacehorse launches offering of HnR bred 2 yo American Pharoah colt o/o Kindle

Last September Hank Nothhaft (HnR Nothhaft Horseracing LLC) sold an American Pharoah yearling colt at the Keeneland September Sale for $300,000. On the other side of the transaction was MyRacehorse, the immensely successful pioneer of micro share offerings in thoroughbred horses. MyRacehorse has created an exceptional proposition to sell micro shares in Kindle 21.

HnR 2 yo Homebreds Livng Magic & Singular take next giant step to Starting Gate

Difficult task to get any horse to the starting gate in good form. Much greater challenge to make it happen in the 2 yo year, but w/o starting the journey will not take place.

Living Magic 2yo Justify Filly o/o Living Magic

Such is the situation for Living Magic, a 2yo Justify filly o/o MGSW Living the Life, and Singular a 2yo colt by Street Boss o/o Move, 1/2 to Ecilpse Award Winner Finest City. After initaly being raised in Kentucky, both matriculated to Eagle Point Farm for Virginia Certification and initial training. Both graduated to Fair Hill Training Center and the open arms of trainer Phil Schoenthal, February 19th.

First Day on track Fair Hill Training Center

Singular, a PABRED, and Living Magic, a Kentucky Bred, trained continuously since the fall of 2022, with only a short holiday break. Both are large, athletic, big boned and easy keepers. As a resutlt, the dream of early 2 yo starters continues. If everything goes “perfect” with no setbacks we could see either or both in some early 2 yo races in the spring. In the meantime, we continue to enjoy the anticipation until something happens to stop us!

Living Magic with Lving the Life

iving Magic’s journey to Fair Hill started @CoolmoreAmerica, where not only does her Dad live, but Mom, Living the Life is domiciled there as well. LM is named after mom and dad. Living clearly come from LTL and Magic comes from the 1st dam of Justify. Justify, the now 2nd crop sire and Triple Crown Winner, is suitably famous. Mom is no slouch as a 3 time graded stakes winner, including one against males, and $1M plus earner in 35 start/10win career. Plans are to breed Living the Life to Justify again this year. Living Magic shipped to VA in August as a yearling.

Singular a large Street Boss 2yo Colt o/o Move

Singular’s path is a bit less regal and a bit more blue collar than Living Magic. Street Boss is a grade 1 winning son of Street Cry and has performed well as a mid pack stallion for Darley now standing for aout 10% of Justify’s stud fee. Move is by Silver Train, who was owned by HnR Horseracing, is an HnR Horseracing homebred and a hard knocking though non black type mare. Move is 1/2 to HnR bred Breeders’ Cup champion Finest City and Multiple Stakes winner Grand Prix. Her first foal is Lingfield Park (PA) who has been consistent at teh allownace level in the Mid-Atlantic.

American Pharoah is a horse that needs no introduction, and the offspring of the 12th Triple Crown winner have been proving their versatility. MyRacehorse’s own Forbidden Kingdom was among the early favorites for the 2022 Kentucky Derby, and this new colt aspires to the same lofty goals. Kindle ’21 is currently excelling in his pre-training in Florida, and we are so excited to see how he progresses this season.
