Randie’s Rascal broke her maiden in her third start on June 18, drawing off to a 2¼-length win in Churchill Downs’ opening-race maiden special weight at 5½ furlongs on firm turf.
The British-bred filly was second away under Luan Machado, took the lead along the inside, and held it through fractions of :21.57 and :44.59 while Wartime pressed her from the outside. She opened up in upper stretch and held sway under moderate urging, stopping the timer in 1:03.22. August closed up the rail for second, Smoke Trail was third, and 1.32-1 favorite Ez Pal lugged in and faltered to finish seventh of 10. Wartime, the rival who forced her pace, faded to sixth.
The Ben Colebrook trainee is now 1-1-1 from three starts with $72,305 earned, in the money every time and improving on figure each out (72, 78, 82) across a third at Keeneland, a second at Churchill, and this win over the same course. All three starts have come against colts and geldings. Bought for $154,200 at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Book 2, she is by Blue Point out of the Dabirsim mare Foxy Rascal, the dam’s first foal, from the extended female family of G3 Albany Stakes winner Different League.
